Purification: A Green Office Design by Dong Zefeng

Bringing Together East and West in a Sustainable Workspace

The Purification office design project by Dong Zefeng draws inspiration from the traditional Chinese cultural idea that the sky is round and the earth is square. By incorporating Chinese and European elements with regional characteristics, the design expresses the cultural exchanges and collisions between the East and the West.

Purification stands out as a unique office design project that prioritizes sustainability and environmental consciousness. The main wall of the space is constructed using recycled waste wood from furniture factories, advocating for green environmental protection and decoration. This innovative approach not only reduces waste but also creates a visually striking feature that adds character to the office.

With a focus on cost savings, the Purification design relies heavily on lighting to enrich the visual effects of the space. The use of carefully placed lighting fixtures creates a dynamic and engaging atmosphere, enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of the office.

The materials used in the Purification project include scrap wood, pine board, and galvanized water pipes. The combination of these materials, along with the implementation of light steel keels and galvanized water pipes, adds a touch of industrial charm to the design.

Covering a total area of 600 square meters, the Purification office design project is a testament to the successful fusion of traditional and modern elements. The space features a central square rest area adorned with a painting landscape depicting high mountain water rockery, a concept deeply rooted in Chinese artistic tradition. The pool in the rest area is home to Koi fish, a symbol of prosperity and progress.

The Purification project was completed in Suzhou, China, between October 2017 and January 2018. The design team, led by Dong Zefeng with assistance from Yichen Tong, faced the challenge of creating an impactful design within a limited budget. Through their innovative use of materials and lighting, they were able to achieve a visually stunning and environmentally conscious workspace.

The Purification office design project has received recognition for its excellence. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2019. This prestigious award honors designs that demonstrate outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
